Sabbath Retreat at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico

Come to the Desert and save your body and soul.

The Desert Mothers and Fathers of the 4th century came away to the Egyptian desert to build their hermitages and monasteries. For them, in the turmoil of the Christian empire and the wars sweeping the continents, the desert was a place of majestic vistas, silence and peace— far away from the cultural decay, societal disturbances and distractions. They were hungry for a deeper experience of the Divine.

You are invited to come away for a spacious week in the high desert of Northern New Mexico and join another small group of seekers of the abundant life. Click here to learn more and register for June 24-29, 2024

At Ghost Ranch, Sabbath comes alive with both communal and personal contemplative practices. Our time together will include shared Sabbath meals, guided group process, worship and personal contemplative practices—all set in the soaring beauty and intimate canyons of Ghost Ranch. The land and slow heartbeat of nature is an important part of Sabbath keeping. We will explore questions of meaning and purpose, suffering, joy, healing, stillness, prayer, and “What Makes Your Heart Sing”? Suffering is real and perennial, but so is soul and body nourishing Love and connection. Sabbath is the least kept ten commandment, yet also the jewel that can bring us into this “palace in time” that Rabbi Joshua Abraham Heschel writes about in his classic work, Sabbath.

Slow down, come and tend your soul for awhile, listen for The Lord of the Sabbath who invites us to come and drink our fill of the Living Water, experience healing and know shalom. This retreat is based upon the book, Soul Tending: Journey into the Heart of Sabbath, by Rev. Anita Amstutz. She is a high desert dweller, herbal and pollinator enthusiast, contemplative, ordained minister, writer and spiritual companion.
